Executive summary

3D_conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT), volumetric modulated Arc therapy (VMAT), tomotherapy (TOMO) and intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT) were compared to identify the best therapy for a patient. The prescribed dose was 40.05Gy, delivered in 15 fractions. The results for this patient suggest that for dose coverage as well as for OAR IMPT seemed to be the best option, whereas for the homogeneity index and the conformity number, TOMO produced the best values. The authors conclude that even though IMPT seems to have the better results, the cost of PT prohibits its application to all patients and recommends to be used in younger patients, for whom sparing of the healthy tissue is far more important
