Founded in 1961, the Antoine Lacassagne Center is one of the 18 French Cancer Centers grouped within UNICANCER which federates all cancer centers in France. It takes care of all types of cancer and welcomes about 6,100 patients per year. It is also one of the pioneers of proton therapy in France and Europe.

In 2016, the center was the first center in the world to use Proteus®ONE technology, with synchro-cyclotron technology. As of December 2021, the center is also the first Proteus®ONE center to be upgraded with Cone-Beam CT imaging functionality, making it the first proton therapy center in France to be equipped with it.
